FACILITY
SITING
Facility siting
is as much art as science. Historically, siting has focused on site
characteristics and regulatory requirements. Unfortunately, the challenge
in siting is political acceptance. That is not to say that siting should
attempt to win converts; rather, the practical goal is to develop consenting
objectors. J Spear Associates has developed several approaches that
address the development of consenting objectors in addition to meeting
site characteristic needs and regulatory requirements.

design team is a professional with design, construction, and operations
experience with the type of facility under design. J Spear Associates
provides senior personnel with design, construction and operations experience
to design teams developing landfill, transfer station, and material
recovery facility designs.

LANDFILL
GAS MANAGEMENT
Landfill gas is
becoming a problematic asset to the modern landfill. Recognized by neighbors
as an odor, identified by the United States Environmental Protection
Agency as a Greenhouse Gas, and having an energy content of roughly
500 BTU per cubic foot. Landfill gas is being captured, collected and
destroyed at an increasing number of landfills due to state regulatory
requirements. J Spear Associates has the experience to assist landfill
owners in the design and implementation of landfill gas management systems.
In addition, J Spear Associates is able to assist landfill owners in
the design and development of landfill gas utilization projects that
enable the owner to benefit from the economic value inherent in a low
cost fuel.
